I couldn't tell if he wanted to kill me or kiss me. Maverick smiled, his eyes lowering to my mouth. * “Now, tell me, are you going to the bonfire with Ian?” Penny stared at me for several moments. “Why?” “Why, what?” I asked tilting my head. She folded her arms over her chest, drawing my attention to the top of her T-shirt. Her pulse thumped in her throat. Reaching forward, I stroked my fingertip from underneath her chin to the end of her throat. She didn't move. She stared. “I want to know if you're going out with my roommate,” I said. “That isn't an answer why,” she demanded. Slowly, I wrapped my hand around her throat, pulling her toward me. The seconds passed as we stared into one another's eyes. I couldn't understand this pull to her, but I knew my dragon, and my body, wanted to touch her more than this. She swallowed, her throat moving against my palm. “Like I said, it's none of your business. Tell me why you want to know, and I'll tell you if I'm going.” Dammit. *** Penny Wells grew up without a dragon, ostracizing her from her clan. When thrust into Dragonfall Academy, she comes face-to-face with her bully, Maverick Jacobs. She imagined he would have beaten the trials before college, giving him king status amongst their clan, but he didn’t. As if she needed another reason to stand out, she’s facing four years of bullying. Until, she begins to have dreams that lead her to a forbidden part of campus, and her dragon begins to stir awake, bringing her true destiny to the surface.
